One Sick Jaguar Concept Car

This is one sweet Jaguar Concept Car with a perfect picture to go with it. Let us know if you think so too.

Audi quattro concept

Audi quattro concept
Exterior and Interior

In a way, this new Quattro is based on the RS5, although the wheelbase has been cut down by about 5.9 inches. The rear overhang was dramatically shortened by 7.9 inches and the roofline was scrunched down by 1.6-inches. All in all, it’s as if the RS5 was placed in the dryer for a few minutes, giving rise to a tighter and much more compact coupe.

During the shrinking process, the weight was also reduced to around 2900 pounds. To accomplish this weight reduction, Audi replaced the steel body with an aluminum spaceframe with carbon fiber panels. Weight was further reduced by overhauling the vehicle’s powertrain, but more on this later.

The exterior of the vehicle is classic Audi, with that big gaping front grille, with air inlets on either side and up top of the hood. The Quattro features LED headlights that can change shape from horizontal or vertical. Instead of casual turn signals, these new lights use amber streaks in the front and moving yellow brackets in the rear of the car.

The overall look of the Quattro is quite good. The rear fascia has a bit of Dodge Challenger to it, with those square taillights and that boxy design. From the side, one would never know that this vehicle isn’t a hatchback, as the rear pillars are very think that appear to run all the way to the rear of the car. It’s a very modern design with some old school Audi touches.

The interior of the Quattro won’t have enough room to haul your kids around, as this vehicle only has two seats. Although that might seem like an issue, most of the rear seats on these sport coupes are so small anyway that you can’t fit a child in if you tried. Between these two seats you have room for helmets, cup holders, odds and ends and even a fire extinguisher, but let’s just hope you won’t need one of those.

The seats are trimmed in brown leather and have a carbon fiber frame, side airbags and racing harnesses. It will feature Audi’s MMI system that will allow the driver to control all the car’s gizmos from larger screen.

The Power

Gone are the eight-cylinder motor and the dual-clutch transmission, replaced by a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder attached to a classic six-speed gearbox. Those with their minds on the auto industry will have realized that this is just about the same base motor, albeit with a new changes, that is found in the Volkswagen Jetta. This motor puts out 402 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque.

Of course, this vehicle is going to have the latest Quattro all-wheel drive design that has a rear-bias and a sport differential. The suspension is roughly the same unit on the RS5 and to bring the car to a stop, you have carbon-ceramic brakes.

Audi believes that the Quattro can hit 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, but like most German vehicles, the top speed is limited to 155 mph. With all this speed and power, it’s amazing when we hear that it can give back 30 mpg.

There is a lack of competition for such a vehicle, as we aren’t sure that the Quattro will even be made. One vehicle that might rival it comes from Audi, the RS5. This sport coupe might be the death of the Quattro concept because there isn’t much of a point in creating a sports coupe when you already have one.

The RS5 features a 4.2-liter FSI V8 with a seven-speed S-tronic transmission. The power plant will be upgraded to produce 450 HP and will be more than enough to send the RS5 sprinting from 0 to 60 MPH in around 4.5 seconds. That’s slower than the Quattro, but money talks and if the RS5 is good enough for customers, it’s good enough for Audi.

Jaguar teamed up with UK’s leading luxury automotive retailer, Stratstone, to unveil the special edition XFR Stratstone Le Mans, limited to only 50 units. Pricing for the luxury vehicle has yet to be announced, but what we do know is that Jaguar will be supporting the Royal British Legion with a donation of £5,000 from the sales of the Stratstone Le Mans model.

Jaguar XFR Stratstone

The XFR Stratstone Le Mans special edition is distinguished by a black front grille with a color-coded grille surround, chrome finish twin bonnet louvers with supercharged script, and 20" gloss black wheels with Jaguar R brakes and red center caps. Jaguar XFR Stratstone

Under the hood there will be a 5.0 liter supercharged V8 engine that delivers 510 HP and sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and up to a top speed limited to 155 mph.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta G430 iMove Marangoni

We don’t usually see auto brands like Alfa Romeo get dressed in green tires, so when somebody decides to do it – props to Marangoni – we jump on the opportunity to know more about it.

Based on the Alfa Romeo 1750 Quadrifoglio Verde that has had its fair share of modifications, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta G430 iMove Marangoni is a testament to an aggressive sports hatch being given randy dandy aerodynamic and aesthetic upgrades. Heck, these guys were nice enough to even include a Segway i2 a dashboard-integrated iPad and its own Internet connection.

Marangoni’s M-Power tires were used on the car and the green color wrapped around them came as a result of using compounds with high silica content and other innovative materials. Aside from being an aesthetic quirk, this colorful addition actually serves a meaningful purpose by minimizing rolling resistance and, consequently, saving up on fuel consumption.

Exterior and Interior

The car’s exterior body was given a charcoal gray finish that uses a unique textured paint finished with a 100% matte clear coat. Among the other design cues on the car’s body is a front bumper with two wide air grills that direct the airflow straight to the uprated braking system. The rear diffuser was also replaced with a new carbon component with air extractors reminiscent of the Ferrari F430 and the side mirror casings were also given carbon. Further illustrating the car’s unique and aggressive look, Marangoni took the spoiler on the rear window and raised it up a notch. Finishing off the package is unquestionably the most noteworthy aspect of the car: the tires.

Called the Marangoni M-Power iGreen tires, these tires were turned green courtesy of special fluorescent pigments that were added to the compound, giving it green-black combination that makes the Giulietta G430 iMove Marangoni even more eye-catching. The tires are then fitted to a set of 19” Barracuda Karizzma wheels.

The interior of the Giulietta G430 iMove was designed in collaboration with Conte of Florence, an Italian-based label that specializes in high-end sportswear apparel. In designing the interior, Conte of Florence used a number of premium materials, including leather, Alcantara, and carbon. Moreover, the company also applied quilting to pay homage to Scotland’s golfing tradition while using a unique green and grey color finish to reflect one of the brand’s themes on their current 2010-2011 Fall-Winter collection.

PERFORMANCE

The Giulietta G430 iMove has over 286 horsepower, a bump up from the 1750 TBi, 235 horsepower output Alfa’s range topping Giulietta – the Quadrifoglio Verde – comes in. The increased output is a result of a power kit that includes, among other things, a new bearing-mounted rotary turbine, downpipe complete with metal catalyst, complete Ragazzon stainless steel exhaust with wide diameter pipes, and an air intake that has been modified through the use of a special carbon air box.

PRICING

Pricing for the car is still being withheld, but we do know that the car will be in attendance at the Bologna Motor Show from December 4th to 12th with another 10 shows in 2011 where it is already scheduled to appear.

COMPETITION

The 2010 Volkswagen Golf R (270 horsepower), the 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco R (265 horsepower), and the Audi S1 (240 horsepower) are all worthy adversaries for this special edition Giulietta. You can have your own pick on any one of these cars and go home happy. But if you think the same way we do, there’s something to be said about a sports hatchback with the audacity to sport green tires. Some people may not like it, but consider us sold.

Proton Lekir Concept

Proton Lekir Concept

Unheralded as the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show is to people from this part of the world, there are still a number of vehicles over there that are worth keeping tabs on. This year, what looked to be a facelifted Lotus Europa made its way to the KLIMS, but upon closer inspection, we discovered that this car was no Lotus.

Well, actually, it was, except that it has been rebadged by Malaysian automaker Proton and given the designation the Lekir Concept. Given the partnership between the two companies, it figures that with the expected end of the Europa’s production run in Europe, Lotus was looking for a new market for their sports car, a market that will welcome it with open arms, even if it has been rebadged under a local brand.

Proton Lekir Concept

That’s where Proton and Malaysia enter the picture. Unlike the European spec Europa, which came with a Vauxhall-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produced over 200 horsepower, the Lekir Concept is scheduled to be powered by a 1.6-liter Campro engine with performance numbers that should be right on par with a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter engine.

Since it’s a concept, details are being kept at a minimum for now. We’re pretty confident though that the car will eventually see the production line sometime soon. The Lotus Europa may have had a premature life span in Europe, but who’s to say that it won’t be successful in Malaysia – and other parts of Asia for that matter – disguised under a different brand and different name.

Street Legal Saleen S7 Competition

We will continue our list of ultra-expensive Christmas gifts with a special vehicle: a street legal Saleen Competition S7 supercar available for sale for an impressive $499,000.

When unveiled in 2000, the Saleen S7 was powered by a naturally aspirated V8 engine with 550 HP. With the introduction of the Competition package, Saleen added a few updates, including 100 HP engine upgrades, a big Le Mans style race wing, winglets up front, and red/black 4pt harness seats. With the new updates, the car was capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and hitting a top speed of more than 200 mph. This was just a step closer to the impressive Twin-Turbo version that was capable of a top speed of 248 mph.

The S7 on sale is the number 27 model, which was the first one offered with the competition package, and the first one that featured the red exterior paint.

Porsche Boxster

Over the years we’ve encountered some people who seem to take great pride and joy in turning their cars into replica exotics. Some have done a piss poor job at it while others have been good enough to make their cars ‘resemble’ these exotics, forgetting the fact that if any of the onlookers would dare lift the hood, the vehicle would be exposed as the fraud that it is. Then there’s this Bugatti Veyron that, upon first look, you would never take for a replica. Except that it actually is.

The work done on the exterior of this vehicle to turn it into a Veyron is extremely impressive. So impressive, in fact, that it may not be obvious that the vehicle that lies underneath it is by no means a lightweight either. Hiding under that remarkably accurate Veyron casing is a Porsche Boxster. Sure, it doesn’t come with the 1,000 ponies the all-original Veyron has, but at 300 horsepower, it can hold its own against other sports cars. Just make sure you don’t put it up against the Ferraris and Lamborghinis of the world, unless, of course, you’re ready and willing to get smoked out of the water and caught with your pants down.

The engine design is what is called a mid-engine layout. Essentially, the engine is place somewhere between the front and real axles. In the case of the Boxster, the engine rests right behind the cockpit.
The idea behind using a mid-engine type layout is to distribute the weight evenly throughout the vehicle. What this is does is then enhance the performance by increasing stability and traction while also improving the accelerating, braking and turning aspects as well. One other benefit is that the ride is much smoother than say traditional front end engine mount. The suspension is in a better situation to absorb bumps without the majority of the weight in the front of the car.
The Boxster was also the first Porsche model to have water cooling for regulating the engine temperature. With the engine located in the middle, cooling it became a priority. Most engines have the benefit of being in the front where it can be cooled by the wind. However, in this case, another alternative was required so Porsche added a water cooling component.
With the mid-engine design, there are two essential drawbacks. First, the engine is pretty much hidden inside the vehicle making routine maintenance a difficult situation. So, one of the things that Porsche did was build the engine to be able to use less maintenance which included longer life spark plugs, more comprehensive engine controls and self tightening fan belts. The second drawback is the reduced capacity for storage. With storage in the nose and rear of the vehicle, there is some but not a lot. You'll want to be as creative as possible if you intend to pack anything.
When Porsche set out to design and build a new sports car, they had the avid sports car enthusiast in mind. With state of the art engineering, the Porsche Boxster engine allows for a driving experience unparalleled to other roadsters in its class.

2010 Aston Martin DBS Edo Competition Luxurious Sports Car

Edo Competition Aston Martin DBS is a result of a modification carried out by Edo Competition Motorsport for the 12-cylinder Aston Martin that already produces 517 horsepower and has a top speed of more than 300 km/h (186 mph). Improving and underlining the elegance and beauty of this British triumph and strengthening its sporting character was the goal declared by Edo competition.
2010 Aston Martin DBS Edo Competition
The first step taken by Edo Competition was improving the power output. The DBS’s engine control unit was modified via software recalibration, then supported by a new high performance exhaust system, and was fitted with special catalytic converters and high flow air filters. As a result, the DBS’s power output was increased from 517 hp and 570 Nm (420 ft-lb) to 550 hp and 600 Nm (442 ft-lb), an enough power to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds and continue on to a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph).
The high performance exhaust system, which was specially designed for the DBS, incorporates butterfly valves allowing it to produce a fantastically rich and sonorous sound. They further help increase the British luxury sports car coupe`s power and torque output. The exhaust comes with a programmable control system that monitors backpressure inside the exhaust and opens the 70 mm butterfly valves when a pre-determined level of backpressure is exceeded.
The unique advantage of this system is that it provides good torque at low engine speeds without sacrificing top end horsepower. The exhaust system is made from stainless steel and the chromed exhaust tips accentuate the elegant design. The driver can adjust the sound of the DBS at any time using a remote control.
Dealing with the levels of grip, Edo competition offers a new wheel design, a set of 21 inch racing wheels. The three-piece wheels come with stainless steel outer rims and the customer can choose the stock tire dimensions
Further, Edo competition has developed a new high performance brake system, 405 mm rotors with 6-piston monoblock calipers and performance brake pads for the front and 380 mm rotors with 6-piston monoblock calipers and performance brake pads for the rear, both including braided stainless steel brake lines.
As with all edo competition models, we set no limit to our customers` imaginations. Special interiors or lavish leather upholstery, individual requests are accommodated and executed with quality.
The modifications of this Edo competition Aston Martin DBS are all carried out at Edo competition Motorsport GmbH in Ahlen, Germany.
