GM Recalling More than 26,000 Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC SUVs and Trucks

General Motors is expanding a previous recall concerning a faulty rear-axle cross pin to include another 26,751 SUVs and trucks from the 2011 model year. The first recall was issued in late December and concerned approximately 1,260
Cadillac Escalades, Chevrolet Avalanche and Silverado 1500s, and GMC Sierra 1500s, all from the 2011MY.

The updated recall now covers certain 2011MY Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Colorado, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe; and GMC Canyon, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles.

The Detroit automaker said the rear axle cross pins were not properly heat treated and could fracture and become displaced within the rear axle.

"Should the pin shift out of position, it could create an interference condition and cause the rear axle to lock. The driver may not be able to maintain directional control of the vehicle and a crash could occur without warning," said GM in a statement on NHTSA's website.

As expected, GM's dealers will install a new rear axle cross pin free of charge, with the safety recall to begin before the end of the month

GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept 2011

The new Sierra HD underpins the All Terrain HD concept, with a modified, production-based 4WD chassis and the Duramax diesel/Allison 1000 six-speed powertrain. The enhanced suspension and unique body dimensions, including increased ground clearance and wider track, as well as greater approach/departure angles, deliver off-road capability while maintaining HD levels of payload and trailering capacity. The All Terrain HD is painted Iridium Metallic – a dark charcoal color that reveals a reddish, anodized inflection when viewed from certain angles.

Based on the chassis of the 2011 Sierra HD trucks, the All Terrain HD features a fully boxed steel frame with exceptional strength and torsional stiffness. It incorporates the production models’ new independent front suspension and asymmetrical rear leaf-spring suspensions, but with a wider 73-inch (1,853 mm) track (front and rear) that enhances stability during off-road and highway driving. A production Sierra 2500HD has front and rear tracks of 68.8 inches (1,748 mm) and 67.3 inches (1,709 mm), respectively.

The GMC Sierra All Terrain HD concept is propelled by the new, production 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 and Allison 1000 six-speed automatic transmission powertrain combination offered in the 2011 Sierra HD trucks. The Duramax is rated at 397 horsepower (296 kW) and 765 lb.-ft. of torque (1,037 Nm).

The powerful 6.6L Duramax is more fuel-efficient – with up to 11-percent greater fuel economy than previous versions – and reduces NOx emissions by up to 63 percent. The powertrain’s efficiency is assisted by the Allison 1000 transmission, which requires less engine power to funnel torque to the axles. It also incorporates a “smart” exhaust brake feature that helps save wear on the brakes on downhill grades, a feature available on production Sierra HDs.

2011 GMC Terrain info and pics

The GMC Terrain (and the mechanically identical Chevrolet Equinox) offer the load hauling limit and rugged looks of a customary game utility, yet in an a great deal more user cordial size. The blocky styling of the GMC might not suit the majority of people's taste, but its proved to be a bargains hit for General Motors. A 2. 4 liter 4 chamber motor is standard, but it would be able to feel overwhelmed and sound raucous when you require a strong measurements of speeding up.

Deciding on the more extensive 3. 0 liter V 6 motor will harm mpg a snippet, in spite of the fact that a 25 mpg EPA highway rating is still quite useful for this class of vehicle. The Terrain joins front or all wheel drive and a 6 speed programmed transmission. A rear view picture clicker is standard (a delightful touch) while the exceptionally essential capacity liftgate is optional. In light of its reasonably smaller size, the Terrain is light and maneuverable in cut and thrust metropolis driving.

The 2010 GMC Terrain

2010 GMC Terrain is another excellent compact crossover SUV from the house of General Motors. The Chevy Equinox and Terrain share several auto parts and even the basic architectural design, though Equinox looks more like a redesigned Terrain.
Looking at the salient features of the latest generation Terrain models, you'll discover that General Motors has incorporated several unique things in the new Terrain such as the 2 pulse techniques with a direct infuse engine injection that helps the engine in starting up faster in cold weather too.
The 2010 Terrain will be marketed in four trims viz SLT-1, SLT-2 as well as SLE-1, and SLE-2. The SLE-1 and 2 will be the base trims offering the standard features, while the SLT trims will offer heated front seats, leather upholstery, and other advanced features.
In 2010 GMC Terrain, fuel economy is going to be yet another extraordinary aspect. A 4-cylinder model with front-wheel drive has bagged EPA calculation of 22mpg on city and 32 mpg on highways, making an overall average of 26 mpg altogether; this is stupendous for an SUV of its kind. The 3L V6 also achieves 20+ mpg, along with plentiful power punch to tackle the hilly tracks. The latest generation V6 powered GMC Terrain comes with a towing capacity of 3500 pounds.
What's more, the new Terrain isn't going to be a costly affair despite all its goodness, and will stand forth in the race of the most affordable compact crossover SUVs as well. So, keep an eye on its release this year, and how it really performs when it hits the roads worldwide.

GMC Yukon Hybrid Review 2010

MSRP: From $ 51,185

Powertrains and Performance
The 2010 GMC Yukon Hybrid is available with rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. Both models utilize a 6.0-liter V8 engine coupled to a pair of 60-kilowatt electric motors located inside what GM calls an electrically variable transmission. Together, they produce 332 horsepower and 367 pound-feet of torque. The system can accelerate the Yukon up to speeds of approximately 25 mph using electricity only, while the V8's cylinder-deactivation system helps reduce fuel consumption at higher speeds. Regenerative braking replenishes the batteries by capturing energy normally lost when you come to a stop.

Fuel economy ratings stand at 21 mpg city/22 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined for rear-wheel-drive Yukon Hybrids, with 4WD versions earning identical numbers except combined, which is just 1 mpg less. Maximum towing capacity for a properly equipped 4WD model is 6,000 pounds.

Driving Impressions
It's not a stretch to say that driving the 2010 GMC Yukon Hybrid feels like being behind the wheel of a 5,600-pound Prius. There's the same eerie quiet when accelerating and braking, as the gas engine shuts off to let the electric motors do their thing. Although it's a tad strange, the result is a quiet cabin, while transitions between gas and electric modes, and eight- and four-cylinder mode, are either undetectable or easy to ignore.

Although the Hybrid is the most powerful Yukon available, it's also the heaviest, so don't expect particularly brisk acceleration. Also, the transmission isn't what we'd call responsive; there can be a notable delay when you ask for full power. Handling is about what you'd expect -- safe but ponderous. Most crossovers are notably more carlike from behind the wheel. The Yukon's cabin remains fairly quiet at speed, though, and the ride is relatively smooth for a truck-based SUV.

Detroit 2010: GMC Acadia Denali

GMC Acadia Denali

Nearly lost in the hubbub at this morning's GMC-Buick press conference here at the Detroit Auto Show was GMC's new-for-2011 Acadia Denali. This is the first time that GMC has extended its upscale Denali trim to a crossover, but they haven't changed the formula just because the designation is no longer exclusive to body-on-frame. As ever, Denali equates to a modestly swankier interior (mahogany trim, perforated leather heated and cooled seats, additional ambient lighting), along with seemingly every other option, including sat-nav, Bluetooth, three-zone automatic HVAC, heads-up display and the obligatory gigantic sunroof.

On the outside, trainspotters will be able to spot the Denali by its monotone paint (Summer White as seen here, Quicksilver Metallic, Carbon Black, Red Jewel Tintcoat or White Diamond Tricoat), honeychrome grille (yeah, we said honeychrome), along with model-specific fascias and polished six-spoke 20-inch wheels.

Detroit 2010: GMC Granite Concept

GMC Granite Concept

Feast your eyes on the next Pontiac Vibe GMC Granite concept. We have to wonder if this car was originally designed to slot into Pontiac lineup before that brand was axed, as it doesn't really seem to fit into the Professional Grade image that GMC has used as a tagline for ages. Or, it could be that General Motors really is considering expanding its GMC brand a few notches down in size.

Whatever the case, we think the Granite is a pretty neat little addition to the burgeoning boxy-but-good small car market here in the States as currently defined by the Scion xB, Kia Soul and Nissan Cube. Unlike those production machines, though, the Granite is a bit tougher in execution, kinda-sorta like the Ford Synus concept from the 2005 edition of the Detroit Auto Show.
